In this review, I will tell you about the new mod from Voopoo called DRAG X PLUS, which is distinguished by the support of 21700 cans and the presence of a proper 510 connector.
Packaging
The DRAG X PLUS kit is sold in a moderate-sized black cardboard box with a full-length photo of the device on the front side (in TPD and other regional versions, the bottom part will be spoiled by huge warnings about the dangers of nicotine). The sides of the package are given over to a list of the main features, social network icons, a sticker with a sales code and an indication of the color of the device inside (another mark about the color is on the front side in the upper right corner). new zealand vape shop richmond The back side is occupied by a list of the delivery set, a sticker with an authenticity verification code, warnings and restrictions, the manufacturer’s address and certificate icons.
What’s in the box
The delivery set is standard and modest: a battery pack with an empty 5.5 ml tank, two different evaporators in individual blisters, a USB Type-C cable for charging, a packet of silica gel (not in the photo) and a fairly thick instruction manual in several languages.
Design
In terms of design, DRAG X PLUS continues to follow the new trends of this series (and at the same time does not hesitate to adopt the best from other manufacturers). The battery pack is based on an alloy frame, one side is slightly larger than the dimensions of the “pipe mode”, it is on it that the controls, screen and charging port are located. But all the other side edges are wrapped in a material “under the skin”, without decorative stitching, but with embossing and a pleasant soft-rough surface. The battery is installed below, and the tank on magnets on top through a spacer, which is screwed into the classic 510 connector.
Battery pack
As I said above, the design of the battery pack is very similar to that of other releases of the new DRAGs, only the side part has become smaller and acquired a round shape. All the main design elements in the form of beveled edges, depressions or the DRAG nameplate at the top, remained in their places. All controls have not changed at all, but the overall thickness of the mod has increased, the proportions turned out to be organic and evoke exclusively positive emotions. The top Fire button has a small anatomical depression in the center, where the finger fits comfortably with any grip. All buttons are pressed with a quiet but clear click and do not rattle when shaken vigorously. The quality of the screen, by modern standards, is quite mediocre, the pixels are simply huge, and in bright sunlight it noticeably blinds, however, for this money it is quite decent.
At the top you can see a steel 510 connector with a spring-loaded brass pin. The base diameter is 22 mm, there are minimal recesses that will help prevent the atomizers from sticking. The overall design allows you to screw on evaporators with a base diameter of up to 26 mm without noticeable drooping at the edges.
Voopoo DRAG X PLUS – control and charging socket
At the bottom is the battery compartment cover, there are no legs to prevent scratches as such, but there are recesses in the cover itself. Also, I did not notice any holes for ventilation or gas removal from the battery anywhere on the body, which is quite strange.
Under the battery cover, you can see the negative contact and a spring-loaded pin under the loop, which transmits current from the cover to the board. In the depths, there is another contact with a spring, this time for the positive battery. The 20700 and 21700 format banks are inserted just like that, and for 18650 there is a complete plastic adapter. The cover itself opens after sliding to the side, its design is made in such a way that even without a battery inside there is no hint of arbitrary opening or rattling, for this, definitely respect to the engineers. I will not write much about the possibility of charging the battery inside the mod. Yes, and that’s okay. Still, charging the battery is faster and safer in special chargers.
Voopoo DRAG X PLUS kit – interface and control
The mod is turned on and off by pressing the Fire button five times, showing the current firmware version on the screen, and then the interface with a bias towards “technogenicity”. The “+” and “-” buttons change the power from 5 to 100 watts in 1 watt increments. Pressing the Fire button three times switches the operating modes and the interface color: yellow – SMART (the maximum power will be limited depending on the resistance of the evaporator) and blue – RBA (the maximum power is not limited in any way, except for the ceiling of 100 watts). When vaping, there is a 10-second cutoff, as well as protection against short circuits, overheating, battery reversal, too low a charge and, conversely, too high voltage values. Using the Fire and “+” buttons, you can enable the power change lock (there will be a closed lock icon on the screen instead of an open one), Fire and “-” reset the puff counter. Simultaneous pressing of “+” and “-” opens a menu in which you can switch the interface from vertical (IRON) to horizontal (CORE), but turning the interface upside down for the convenience of left-handers is impossible. Pressing all three buttons at the same time will show you the firmware version and some strange LEVEL CODE.
Personal impressions
After my first acquaintance with the device, I really wanted to add the phrase “Make DRAG great again!” to the title. Seriously, the mod turned out to be simply gorgeous in terms of tactile and design (we simply forget about the included tank and pretend that it is here exclusively as a pleasant and almost useless bonus). A closer acquaintance continued to please – support for 20700 and 21700 batteries, charging via USB Type-C, gorgeous ergonomics and, I repeat once again, the ideal feeling from simply holding it in your hand. But, “you understand”, there are no miracles and for every barrel of honey there is a fly in the ointment, and Voopoo would not be themselves. Here this fly in the ointment was the chip firmware. No, the chip itself is quite worthy of being, it is fast and powerful, but the functionality is clearly let down. I am easily ready to put up with the lack of temperature control and forget about the preheat curve settings, I don’t care about screen customization, such simplicity even deserves a certain respect. But why couldn’t they add a bypass mode (direct current supply to the evaporator bypassing the board)? Why is there no stealth mode (complete screen shutdown)? This is something I absolutely do not understand. So, in the end: the device is good if you clearly understand that you do not plan to use any other settings except for changing the power. But those who like to set the power with an accuracy of 0.1 Watt and conjure with preheat curves simply pass by. I will also be extremely brief about the complete tank – as a starter, why not, and then you can buy something more in line with your personal desires and ideas about beauty.
