We continue our excursion into the history of inventions that led to the advent of the electronic cigarette. The first part is the history of the origin and development of vaping.
1960s
More than 30 years passed before another patent application was filed with the patent office for a device similar to the modern electronic cigarette. The inventor was Herbert A. Gilbert. He dubbed his device a smokeless tobacco-free cigarette. The device was significantly smaller in size than its predecessor from 1927. buy vape accessories And it was already positioned as a cigarette, although Gilbert did not deny the possibility of using it as a medical inhaler.
Herbert A. Gilbert graduated from business college with a bachelor’s degree, after which he enlisted in the Army and became a veteran of the Korean War. At that time, Herbert had already begun to think about his career. His father was the owner of a landfill in Beaver Falls, and after working there, Herbert decided to start his own business. He considered his logical thinking the main tool in achieving his goal.
Herbert was a heavy smoker. He smoked 2 packs a day and had been trying to quit smoking for a decade without success. But his invention changed things. Using his acquired knowledge, in 1963, Herbert designed a battery-powered slurry evaporator with a heat source. Thus the first electronic cigarette was born. In 1965, he received a patent for his invention, and in the same year an article was published in the magazine Popular Mechanics. Some time later, there was a fire in the warehouse and all the prototypes were destroyed.
